The Reviews:

The price point of roughly $90 for this machine makes it affordable and from the description above it sounds like it would be a pretty good breadmaker.  The problem is that once we started researching the reviews for this product we found that the reviews were terrible.  More than 50% of the reviews we found online were from people that were giving this machine a one star rating — Ouch!

There were some positive reviews of course and some people liked the fact that the machine was quiet and that you could make bread without any hard work.  People also commented that the machine does a good job of mixing the ingredients but that is pretty much where the good comments end.

Many of the reviewers stated that it is very difficult to make good bread with this particular machine.  There are no extra kneading cycles or multiple rise cycles that one would need to make a more flavorful loaf of bread with a finer texture.  The instructions call for warm water rather than having a preheating function and the recipes require lots of yeast to make sure the bread rises rather than using multiple rise cycles.

Many people complained of attempting to make multiple loaves of bread without any success.  People that followed the instructions to the letter had issues with the bread overflowing the container because the bread would rise too high in the machine and just end up making a mess instead of a delicious loaf of bread.

Several of the reviewers also complained that it was nearly impossible to find a setting that did not result in burning the bread.

If you want a messy countertop, burned bread, and a big mess to clean up then this is the machine for you.  However, if you enjoy fresh baked bread and want a machine that is reliable, durable, and easy to clean up it would be a good idea to spend a little more money and go with a better machine.  There are lots of other options out there for you.

Terrible, absolutely terrible. I have used a Black &
Decker breadmaker for about 14 yrs. which I purchased in Canada. Earlier this year, because I liked it so very much I ordered a replacement, supposedly very much like the one I had (which no longer worked), but it is nothing like the one I had. This one does not heat long enough to have the bread rise, and requires a very large amount of yeast. I am buying another breadmaker–of a different brand.

You answered my question perfectly on how good a new Black & Decker bread machine would be. I too have used one for many, many years with wonderful results. I particularly like the delayed start feature because you don’t have to worry about the water temp. for the yeast. I certainly won’t get the new version. I see that the Panasonic has the delay start feature and lots of raves.

I have had this breadmaker for about 3 years, use it infrequently beacuse the bread is terrible. The dough doesn’t rise very much and the finished loaf of bread is heavy and small. In spite of using the “light” setting, the loaf is consistently much too dark and very crusty. Am now regretting selling my Hitachi machine and wondering why I did that. Purchased second hand older Regal Model C6741 which made beautiful dough and bread, but lost my breadpan to a scammer who never intended to send it back repaired. Live and learn!!!

I have used this model bread machine 2 to 3 times a week over the past two years. It has just fallen apart.
I noticed the dough had black marks through it and upon further inspection found it coming from under the kneading blade. When I took the blade off, the rotating shaft fell out the bottom of the pan. Whatever was holding it there had disentragrated, probably into the bread dough.
I was never satisfyed with any baked product and used the machine mainly for dough. I will never buy another Black and Decker Bread Machine.
